Identity Theft

Valuable Information on how you can protect yourself from identity theft and the newest form of internet fraud, know as “phishing,” is available from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) through the attachment below.  This brochure was developed by the NCUA and other Federal Financial Exanimation Council (FFIEC) member agencies and is available on the NCUA website.

“Phishing” involves the theft of personal financial information through fraudulent emails and phony websites designed to look like legitimate sites.  The website explains more about “phishing”, how it works and how you can protect yourself.  It also offers tips for fighting identity theft such as:

• Never provide personal information if you did not initiate the contact
• Never click on the link provided in an email if you suspect it’s fraudulent
• Do not be intimidated by an email or caller who suggests dire consequences if you do not immediately provide or verify financial information
